Today I finally completed the last of my "moving to Wis- consin" duties. I got my driver's license and subsequently submitted my voter registration. Yay! I'm official after only 62 days in the state.
At first, the DMV clerk would not accept my proof of residence, but she did so after a few pitiful pleas and a trip back to speak with her manager. They all were really nice, actually - a welcome change from past DMV experiences I have had. The photo didn't turn out half bad either, although I look about ten years more mature than my age. The turtleneck sweater and semi-matronly hair contributed, I think. The kids were great; they sat in their chairs and ate pretzels while I hoped that I would not have to come back with other documents at a later date. I was hard enough getting us all up, dressed, and ready to go in order to be one of the first people there this morning (less waiting, which was the plan).
So what else have I accomplished after 62 days here? I am now the coordinator of my playgroup, the MOMS Club Babysitting Co-op Coordinator, and a member of the Joint Venture Club (and creator/administrator of their website). I attend a weekly bellydancing class, and as a family we hold memberships to the Children's Museum and Swim West. Through MOMS I am also involved in the fortnightly Cooking Club and the monthly Book Club, Club MAD (Music, Art & Drama), and (soon to be) Meals-on-Wheels volunteer program. And, of course, there is my humble blog and all my independent ventures contained herein.
And Keven was worried about me sitting in this little apartment all winter, bored and friendless! I'm probably more at risk for blowing up than boredom, but I'll cross that bridge later.
Speaking of winter, it seems nearer today. We had a high yester- day of 84 F (28 C, to set a new record), and right now (12:52 PM) it is only 45 F (7 C). Yikes! I thought I did well putting long sleeves and long pants on everyone this morning, but we really needed coats. Amazing. Everyone tells me this is NOT normal Wisconsin weather, so I'll have to take their word for it! The trees are almost entirely turned or semi-nude by now (the picture above is from in front of our place), and a cold snap like this makes it feels like snow could arrive any day.
Now I'm curious about attending the Madison Curling Club's open house later this month, but maybe I already have enough to do! Then again, I have Saturday mornings off...
UPDATE: We eventually reached a high of 54F (12 C) for the day - a drop of 30 degrees in 24 hours. EEEKK!

You definitely have me beat, and I've been in St. Louis for 96 days. I've found 3 moms groups, a church, and a belly dancing class, but so far I'm not in charge of anything yet. I still have a PA driver's license. But I did finally put a St. Louis picture of myself on my profile.
