Yesterday, we went back to the swimming pool. The girls were a little better, willing to kick their feet in the water, walk up the stairs, and travel with me into the deeper (four feet!) level without any major attempts to strangle me in terror. In a few short weeks, they'll be swimming laps around me. We also made a quick trip to the library.
That afternoon, I attended my first meeting of the MOMS' Cooking Club - as the host. How it works: a woman offers to host one of the bi-weekly meetings and selects that meetings' theme. I chose "Mexican" and made enchiladas. Other members chime in with their contributions to the menu - this week we had a jalepeƱo & rice casserole, black bean soup, and a zesty fruit salad. We all cook the meals at home, bring them in family-portion disposable containers, and then get together for what is essentially a playgroup. No cooking takes place at the meeting; that would be disastrous with all those kids under foot. Oh, and the hostess gets $5 per attending member to pay for the cost of their main-course meal. Nice! Good fun and a new selection of tasty foods.
Today we went to the zoo, and I met two more moms. We got to see orangutans and chimpanzees up close, by far the closest I've been to the orangutans (a male, female, and baby girl). There were also a pair of grizzly bears taking a swim, and at the lion viewing window, the full-grown male lion walked right alongside the glass. He was gigantic, grunting his threatening roars under his breath, as he strutted right past us. Awesome! Afterwards, we went to the zoo's park for an hour and then met Keven for some pizza.
I've skipped bellydancing tonight. Keven has an informa- tional session with Pepsi, with which he has an interview tomorrow afternoon, and Juliette hasn't been feeling well tonight. Keven also has an accounting midterm tomorrow, so it has just been a cramped time for me to get away. I have plenty of weeks left to learn the finer parts of my shimmy. Instead, the girls will go to bed soon and then I'll enjoy an evening to myself...
Tomorrow: morning playgroup and then a quiet afternoon!
