Juliette's Birthday, Part III - Conclusion

Yeah.... So that did not go so well. Juliette, I think, is ill again. She took a longer-than-usual nap today without complaint, had bad diarrhea, and was generally a very unhappy (newly) three-year-old this afternoon. We just cannot catch a break with these nasty autumn colds. I had to talk her into taking a bath with promises of her smiley potatoes. Then she cried when it was time to get out of the bath, and she did not eat her potatoes. Then she wanted the cake, but she spit out the only bite she tried (hence humbling the bragging I did about my lovely cake). Then she wanted the presents... and that went well. She loved everything.

Katka was supposed to come over this evening with a present for Juliette, but she is nanny to a seven- month-old boy. I warned her to stay away for now. The girls and I watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on television, which received mixed reviews from my panel of critics. Ilsa hid her face when Snoopy pretended to be the WWI flying ace, which also scared me as a child. It always seems so incongruous. Here are happy children going out to trick- or-treat, and then a dog is fired upon by machine guns. How is a toddler supposed to know that the loud noises and plane crash images are Snoopy's active imagination? And all Juliette had to say was, "The black-and-white one (Charlie Brown's ghost costume with the many holes) got rocks." Fair enough.

I managed to find a new host for the playgroup that was supposed to meet at our house tomorrow, and it looks like our initial plans to head to the farm in the afternoon are out the window. Now our schedules and plans for this week are up in the air, waiting to see who will or will not be sick coming into Karen's wedding on Saturday.

Sigh. As I suspected, I don't really have the time to be maudlin about my little girl growing up so quickly. It's just been too hectic, which is probably how she's grown to be this age in the blink of an eye. Keven will be at his finance mid-term (and post exam drinks) until much later, so I'm going to go have a beer.

I hope you feel much better this morning when you will wake up.

I am at home today, not feeling well either, but with tons of work from the office as well.

This week is better you take at easy and recover for Karen's wedding. It would be good if also your parents and the girls could go even if just for that night.

I showed Juliette's picture (the one with the Elmo's pants) to my friend Federica, and she thinks that Juliette is wonderful.
:o ) I mean, we knew this already, but this is the counterproof from a "stranger" :o )
