So here I am, back in Indiana again (hence, no pictures - too much hassle to upload on dial-up). The girls and I drove down from Madison yesterday, with my thought process moving along these lines: I have to get to the farm (at least to pick up the bridesmaid dress my mom altered), so I might as well get it over with. The kids are doing much better, except Juliette is still fairly tired as we all struggle to get over this !@&$^@* cold.
Mom made them matching pajamas. Too cute. She also got Juliette an alphabet machine thingie that speaks English and Spanish, three pair of Finding Nemo underwear, and a Play-doh set. Casey and Jess dropped by today to offer more dinosaurs, but Juliette was very tired and went to bed before we could open presents. They'll be back on Sunday evening to complete Juliette's primo birthday haul, once we've returned from the wedding.
Speaking of dinosaurs, Cisco (my mom's German Shepherd) mauled the Pachycephalosaurus (it lost a hand and foot), so I put all of the dinosaurs away until we can either replace that one or distract her with the new ones Jess & Casey bought. We'll see how that goes.
For Karen's wedding, I'm leaving the girls with mom and dad in the hopes that all will go well: that their most pregnant goat won't go into labor, that Casey will be able to successfully hold down the farm for Saturday evening and Sunday morning, and that my grandmother will stay snug in the hospital as she safely and effectively recovers from her latest chest infection. But everyone is making a tremendous effort because Karen and I have been best friends since we met as university-assigned roommates at BGSU more than 11 years ago. My family loves her and vice versa, so it's just something that everyone feels compelled to chip in and make happen for us. I love my family.
So first thing tomorrow morning, I'm driving to Michigan in mom's truck to hang out, participate in the rehearsal & dinner afterwards, and then spend the night with Karen at her parents' house. Saturday, it's on to the salon, over to the church for lunch and photographs, meet up with mom, dad and the girls (after they drive up in my car and get us all checked in to the hotel), get the girls dressed and their hair done, wedding, reception, night at a hotel. Sunday will be more socializing, this time while the girls are with me and mom and dad head back to the farm early. We'll follow later that afternoon. Monday morning it will be back to Madison in time for naps and then trick-or-treat.
I won't post again until Tuesday. By then, my weekend will be long past... just when I'll need a serious break.
