How Full Can 48 Hours Be?

Quite! After recovering from our dinner on Saturday night, I hastily whipped the house back into shape. I managed to find the kitchen, clean it, and make potato soup for the MOMS Cooking Club event I was hosting, plus I gave the girls baths and washed their hair, did laundry, etc. etc. I was a busy bee!

Monday, following a work-out and an emergency load of laundry after Ilsa expelled all the bath water she consumed the night before, we went to Jenn's house. Although we just had a playdate with her here on Friday, she agreed to watch the girls while I attended an on-campus meeting for club presidents. Along with Dan, I am co-president of the Joint Venture Club, a social organization for the spouses and partners of MBA students at UW-Madison. The meeting was scheduled for 12:15, which was not a problem for most people - after all, they are students and attend classes in that building. But Dan and I have lives off campus. His life just happens to take place in Verona where he has a boss watching over him. So I was, with two pre-schoolers, the more flexible of the two. But I did get to hear the organizations adviser go on about how nice my JVC website is, so that was fun!

Jenn was great. On short notice, she watched the kids and served them lunch. Apparently Calvin likes the girls and insists that he should dance with Ilsa because they are the same height. But then it was back to our house around 1:30 to throw them in bed for a quick nap before the moms arrived at 3:30. Well, 3:45. MOMS Club members are consistently late (except me, I think, which throws everyone else off!).

Despite our lack of space, we managed to squeeze everyone in the apartment for an hour and a half. However, Ilsa's abbreviated nap and the overwhelming activity that awaited her upon waking served to short-circuit her system. She cried for a good thirty minutes and spent much of the time in my room, avoiding anyone who might take the toy doctor's bag away from her. After all that activity, I settled down to watch Monsoon Wedding and Medium and eat too much. Ah, that has been a trend this week.

Tuesday, we headed to the shops. We went to Michael's for a bunch of art supplies for the kids, which we will be trying later today. Then it was off to Sam's Club where I bought an electronic keyboard for my birthday. Yes, I know, my birthday is not until May, but Sam's was having a post-Christmas close-out on keyboards (which included a stand and power adapter). Keven said I should pick one up and put it in our storage locker until I turn... 30. And I did. After unpacking it and making sure the thing worked, we hauled it downstairs. Now I have something to look forward to instead of dreading that time... not turning 30, so much, but Keven's departure for his summer internship.

Following Sam's, we went to the mall because they have an indoor play structure for kids under five (although that, unfortunately, is not enforced). We arrived just before lunch, intentionally, so that the place would not be so crowded. Everyone was eating. After 40 minutes on the equipment, it was our turn to brave the mass fooding of a mall food court. Not the best fun, but the girls were great, incredibly hungry, and in very good spirits. Juliette said that when you stick a French fry into ketchup, you give it red hair. She also thought the down escalator looked like melting steps. Funny thing!

Wal-mart was next for some random household supplies, then the library, then collapsed, napping children upon returning home. I sorted out the house and cleaned, took a nap once Keven came home, and then fled to the Overture Center for Swan Lake, which was one of my Christmas tickets. I returned exhausted from the show and ready for brownies (I made them for a Cooking Club snack - silly me).
