Ilsa's Bad Dream

This morning, Ilsa awoke screaming just after 7am because of a nightmare. She kept saying something about a slide, but I could not make out the rest. Perhaps her dream had been fueled by our trip to the playground yesterday.

Anyway, because the sky is light by 7am, and because she cried at length, Juliette woke up as well. And they stayed up. For Ilsa, this was not such a tragedy. She's a baby, and her mood is not so dictated by sleep. She'll nap when she's tired. Juliette, however, is wretchedly, negatively affected by truncated sleep. If she wakes up even a half hour before 8am, she is a cranky witch for most of the morning. All you can do is distract her until naptime, and even then a nap is not guaranteed.

So we continued with our plan to go swimming this morning. We fared well, with approximately 40 minutes in the water and both girls eager to go with Keven and I to the deeper regions of the pool. Our trip to Brennan's thereafter was a little less successful as Juliette's haywire internal clock began to get the better of her normal personality. But we got a few nice cheese selections for our fondue date this evening and quickly shuffled off toward home for lunch and naps.

Lesson: Nightmares at 2am only affect the dreaming child and the unfortunate parent who has to get up and console her. Nightmares at 7am affect the entire family and continue well into the day. Avoid them, if possible.

Oh no! Incubi are terrible! :O (

Did they calm down?

Question: Plan UK messed up my order to *my* sponsored child in Paraguay. We ordered fingers puppets which are no longer available. The alternative is more puppets or an educative watch. He is 4 years old. Is this a suitable gift? Will he be able to understand it? If so, I will go for it.

Thanks for the consultancy.

P.S. I signed up with the wrong nickname and had to erase the previous post.

The watch may be a little advanced, depending on the amount of education he has had. My girls have no concept of time right now, and it's not looking like something they'll understand for some months, at least. The puppets would be great, I think, especially if he has younger siblings of any kind - puppet shows, acting out nursery rhymes, etc.
