Our Valentine's Day resembled... Tuesday. I went to the library with the girls, did a bit of shopping for a playdate craft I was responsible for this morning, made a quiche (spinach, mushroom, onion and cheese - it's soggy and looks funky because the veggies had such a high water content, but it's delicious), did regular chores, worked out, and took the kids to a Valentine's Day party hosted by the MOMS Club. Keven was up at 6:30, out the door to catch his bus by 7:15, and home briefly for a late lunch. Then he was back out the door at 3pm to attend a study session that ran until 10pm (two exams tomorrow).
Only after returning home did he remember it was Valentine's Day. I'm just glad I bought myself some flowers when I was shopping this weekend! It's not a big deal for us, and in fact we try to duck out of the whole celebration, but I laughed at how all the other moms were talking about their evening plans while our night was just busy! Who wants to go out to eat on Valentine's Day anyway? I cannot imagine being able to find a table before 9pm!
The party was fun and would have been less enjoyable had the space we commandeered been smaller. We assembled in the basement rec room of the Verona Public Library, a cavernous space that runs beneath the entire building, with great room for tables, chairs, and running. Our girls decorated heart sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles (and then ate them), made valentines for Keven, danced, and ate more snacks. It really was an enjoyable afternoon. At one point, I looked over toward the dancefloor (several secured pieces of plywood) and saw Ilsa just dancing by herself. Too cute! Juliette got tired of all the rowdy boys, running around like a pack of little wolves, and found a place under a table to read. She briefly joined in for "Ring Around the Rosy" but then promptly returned to the book she had discovered among some play toys. We got ourselves a reader!
And happy Year 33 for my parents :)

Thanks to Trivial Pursuit, I have learnt that St Valentine is the most celebrated day; it is in fact celebrated indistinctively all over the world = the biggest commercial manouvre ever.
Other trivia: St Valentine was from Italy, precisely he was from a small town called Terni, not far from Perugia (my ex-university city) and Assisi (St Francis' home town). :o )
