Bus Ride Success

In preparation for our summer adventures, when Keven will take our only car to Virginia and the girls and I will be left here to partake in Madison's competent bus service, we set out later this morning for a trial run. The goal was to make it to campus and have lunch with Keven, but - worst case - I was prepared to abandon ship at a point about 3/4 of a mile from our house. If Ilsa was going to melt down like last time (almost eight months ago) we could abbreviate this first attempt and walk home.

Luckily, no such problems occurred. I was so proud of Ilsa! After a brief cry when the bus stopped and the driver release the air brakes, she settled down almost instantly and sat on my lap for the entire journey to campus. Success! Juliette was also great, happily taking in the sights from the window seat.

After a nice little lunch by the lake with Keven, which was really only pretext for the bus attempt itself, we returned home. Ilsa even managed to sit on the seat herself, sandwiched between Juliette and I, for a few miles before asking to climb back into my lap.

This bodes well for us. I do believe, however, that I shall plan trips that require as little use of the stroller as possible. Today we managed with just the girls, myself, and a backpack. I don't know how I will negotiate a stroller as well. But the "no hideous fearful crying" part made me glad. And this will be great practice for our trip to England this Christmas, at which time Ilsa will be even older and more experienced with non-car travel, thus making planes and trains a more successful possibility as well.

This Saturday: Farmer's Market by bus!
