Yesterday, the girls and I traveled to the Carriage Riding Stables to meet other MOMS Club members for a tour of their horse boarding facilities. This was a little anticlimactic after I mentioned that we were going horse riding, so just seeing and petting the pretty ponies was not so exciting then. Plus, the girls are so used to the freedom and accessibility of my parents' farm that they are not interested in these local establishments. Where's the fun when they cannot get in the pens with the animals?
After our morning at the stables, the eight moms and our small shadows went to Micky-D's for a lunch in playland. Much as with Ilsa's previous playland experience, she freaked again, but her recovery was much faster this time. I merely had to travel the length of the tunnels once, showing her the route to the twisty slide, before she was ready to tackle the thing on her own. Juliette was naturally very active and made laps.
This morning, we left bright and early (cutting Sesame Street short, which upset Juliette) to meet four other moms for breakfast. Not impressed with anything but my food, some LOVELY blueberry and sour cream crepes. The service was poor, the girls' portion was small for the high cost, and the manager put us in a corner of the restaurant, away from the other guests. As if five moms and four kids would make a big fuss in their nice, tidy place. We outnumbered the kiddies, for Pete's sake!
After breakfast, the girls and I traveled to Sam's Club to pick up bunches of art supplies, as I intend to feed Juliette's ever-increasing art fetish. She expresses EVERYTHING she does or thinks through a drawing. We found lots of art goodies, bought an iPod Shuffle for Keven (which he'll appreciate this summer, I think, with the big trip to Richmond), and caught a bit of Narnia on their TV displays. When we walked in, Juliette noticed "the lion movie," but I realized that the sacrifice scene was just coming up. We strolled away from the TVs until that was over (about the time we finished shopping) and came back for the ending when the four siblings are all crowned. Juliette and Ilsa were extra keen on that, particularly the idea of talking animals in a castle, and Juliette literally squealed when she saw their princess outfits. When did I wind up with a girly girl? Must be the pony castle and all the ballet lessons...
And as a small testament to my house-cleaning habits, here is an anecdote: I make our beds rather religiously, a tendency that began when we listed our house last year and I wanted it nice for showings. This morning, our departure for the breakfast was so hasty that I did not have the time to make beds. When we came home today, Juliette saw my unmade bed and asked, "What happened to that silly bed?!" I suppose that means she has grown accustomed to my regular completion of at least one chore around here.
