Yesterday, we went to the Olbrich Botanical Gardens for their annual Blooming Butterflies event. We have been to the gardens once before for their Christmas display, and believe me - the temperature controlled jungle environment is much more fun in the winter. The butterflies were everywhere inside the enclosed gardens, which was a surprise. I had images of me walking through saying "there's one" all the time and the girls being unable see them. There were enough for the girls to see butterflies wherever they turned.
After touring the indoor exhibit, we took our butterfly passport books to the six stamp stations in the outdoor gardens. Painted butterflies on the sidewalk looked like a trail, which Ilsa loved following, and we walked and walked through all of the gardens to find the stamps for their passports. Upon finding all the stamps, the girls were rewarded with a certificate for free cone at a local frozen custard shop. However, we had planned to meet Jenn and Calvin on the other side of town, so I have the certificates for later.
But as every mom knows, once ICE CREAM has been mentioned, a parent must deliver - or else don't bring up ice cream at all. We canceled outdoor play because of looming thunderstorms, and Jenn and I drove to a McDonald's for ice cream and indoor play. Following that treat, we headed over to Jenn's house for playtime until dinner.
Today, Juliette woke up with a light rash on her stomach, neck and face. I read online that this can be the after-effects of common childhood viral infections (such a roseola) that begin with flu-like symptoms and fever. So we stayed in, quarantine style. Hopefully, she will be better tomorrow.
