On Monday, following our return home, we accomplished masses of tedious chores to return to our normal lives. Bills, unpacking, dishes, schedules, shopping, errands... all checked off the list. Tuesday, Keven took the girls to the zoo for a little while, leaving me to watch a movie BY MYSELF! IN MID AFTERNOON! Holy crap that was cool!
All through the week, the girls have occupied themselves with a ton of outdoor play. The weather has been gorgeous all week, and staying inside to play with indoor toys seems an abuse of the beautiful conditions. So I have been packing up my writing bits to join them outside as the tear around on the trikes and play with the neighbors. Their little gang consists of: American siblings Seth (7) and Claudia (5), Indian Muslim siblings Omar (5) and Fatima (3), Korean siblings Jeongg-yu (4) and Emily (2), and he-of-the-loud-feet Ardah (3), the only son of the Turkish family that lives above us. The girls hardly ever want to play with me when we're in the backyard. Neat!
Thursday, Keven took the girls to see a friend of his, Chauncey, an MBA student who is the band leader for college marching bands during summer. UW hosted the national championships this year, so Keven and the kids went to see where the bands warm up in the parking lot. No need to pay admission! And seeing as how most of the performances bordered on the "too loud" category for Ilsa, they did not stay long. And someone other than me picked up milk on the way home. Sweet mother this rocks!
However, things keep moving around. For the last two and a half months, if I left my bedroom clean when I woke up in the morning - it STAYED clean all day. Now things keep moving around. Things moved by a co-habitating adult. What's up with that?
And finally, we went to the Farmer's Market this morning. Keven had never been before, so this was a new experience. I secured all of the essentials: cheese bread, cheese curds, kohlrabi, green beans, tomatoes, pastries, blueberries, and fresh trout (for Keven's dinner). More playing this afternoon. Watched Nemo. Giant salad. Family contentment.
Maybe next week we'll actually get back into our reading and school chores, but this has been a nice break from the tension of the summer. Yay! Husband!
