Moving Updates
Not only are our moving expenses covered, but Jockey -- praise be! -- will cover all of the arrangements. No need for moving company reviews, estimates, and appointment pains. We call. They show up. Presto!
The trick is that we need to give four weeks notice to make arrangements. Keven's start date is 18 June. That means we have a little less than two weeks to get relocation funding approval, find a place to live, and start the process in order to be moved in by the day Keven starts work. Argh! So soon! And Steve and Silvia will be arriving from England on 18 May to stay with us a week. Are we beginning to see why my "finish book by Nationals" deadline is looking pretty darned gloomy?
Now, if only we had a place to live. Keven and I sat on our porch yesterday, sharing a moment to breathe, eat ice cream, and enjoy a perfect spring evening. We want a place at least as nice as here, which essentially means closet space and a really good neighborhood. The apartment itself, including its amenities, will most likely be better no matter where we go to satisfy those first two requirements. I want a dishwasher and the ability to keep cats. I want a washer and dryer in my residence. And maybe a community fitness center.
We are willing to forgo a second car and all its expenses in order to have a nicer place to live. Since our Corolla is paid off in September, that means negligible car expenses. All five of the residences we've identified online are within four miles of Keven's work. We'll make do, at least for the first year.
As most people know, what is advertised on the internet bears only a tangential resemblance to reality. As soon as we get funding approval for a house-hunting trip, we'll be driving with the girls to Kenosha to check out apartments -- hopefully Sunday or Monday. That will be nice, to know where we're going!
On the writing front, I submitted my revised entry to the HHRW contest yesterday. Fly away, Stanley, be free! Now that the technical aspects of revision and writing a synopsis are off my desk, I can get back to producing more words. After a busy day of errands and house chores, I'm home with the kids today. It's warm and lovely out, so they'll mostly spend the time with their friends. I think I'll sneak my notebook outside, too.

Quoting Cars. I wonder what that means.
what does "relocation funding approval" mean?
Have you ever been to Kenousha?
Good luck with the house hunting. I am sure it will not be a problem. If you start shortlisting houses from the internet now and arranging viewings, you'll have over a month to find sonething.
Only you and the girls would catch that one, Kev.
The relocationg funding is the money we get from Jockey to move. They have to approve our estimates before we can get our expenses reimbursed. I've never been to Kenosha, but Keven was there for the interview.
Wow! Sounds really hectic but I have faith you'll work it all out just fine Carrie. And I can attest that forgoing an extra car for one of those "luxury apartment homes" with w/d in residence, pools, playgrounds, community centers and clubhouses is WELL worth it(we're planning on moving into one soon).
BTW, I tagged you!
