Captain Raptor

Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates
Ilsa found this book at the library: Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates by Kevin O'Malley and Patrick O'Brien. Dude, those are the most profound Irish stereotype names evah! The book is told in comic book style, and what could be more awesome than dinosaurs... pirate dinosaurs... IN SPACE!

Captain Raptor is the intrepid leader of a group of roving heroes who rescue a dinosaur planet from pirates intent on stealing the crown jewels. (Dinosaurs instituted a monetary system that values jewels? Never mind.) They battle mechanized space monsters, a treacherous pirate captain, and a spaceship with nearly as many problems as the Millennium Falcon. The art is absolutely gorgeous, very dramatic. And the girls got a kick out of the Flash Gordon cliffhangers: "Could this be the end of Captain Raptor?" And they'd shout "No!" Ilsa loves it so much she's made Keven and I read it a couple times each, and she even made up a song.

So I was happy to learn that the Irish wondertwins have a second book entitled Captain Raptor and the Moon Mystery. We have it on hold at the library, and Ilsa is super excited. Too cute.
